One of the most common questions we get asked is ‘Which themes does your plugin work with?‘, or ‘Will Property Hive work with this theme?‘ as they include a link to a theme they’ve found on Theme Forest. Most of the time our response to these questions is a positive one as, in summary, it can work with most themes.
There is only thing we generally tend to tell people to avoid, and that’s trying to integrate Property Hive with a WordPress theme that already comes with support for adding properties. These themes will already have all the code in place to list properties so trying to integrate Property Hive code into it at the same time is likely to cause conflicts.
Note: If you’re using the Houzez theme we have released a data bridge allowing you to use Property Hive and Houzez together by automatically syncing properties between the two.
The comparison I often give for this situation is to compare a Ford and a Fiat; they both do the same thing (i.e. they’re both cars that drive), some parts will fit and work if you were to swap them over, but overall, if you were to try and put the engine of one into the other, you’d be left with a huge headache. It’s the same thing here.
Please note that we do not offer any support should you be using a theme that has non-Property Hive property related functionality in it.
What we generally tend to say to people is as follows; You have one of three options:
Use our free and open-source Honeycomb theme which already comes with Property Hive built into it to get you up and running in minutes.
Find an off-the-shelf theme that doesn’t have any property listing capabilities and integrate Property Hive into it.
Create your own bespoke WordPress theme and, as above, integrate the property functionality into it yourself.
To reiterate, Property Hive can generally work with just about any theme. My advice would be to pick, design or build your theme safe in the knowledge that our plugin is very flexible and can be styled to look however you desire. Don’t let the property search integration steer your theme choice because then you might not end up with the site you or your client really wants.
If you’ve gone for option one or two above and need to integrate Property Hive into your theme but don’t know how? We can help. Firstly check out our documentation to get you started or, if you need us to dive into the code, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do to help.
